***The Ishi award**** is given out by the Pope and Young Club for what they consider to be a truly outstanding big game animal taken in North America. All animals under consideration for the awards had to be taken with a bow and arrow.

****The Ishi award is named after a Native American named Ishi who was the last known Native American tribesman. He came out of the wilderness in 1911 and was considered to be a primitive man and was brought to the University of California for study. Dr. Saxton Pope and later Art Young were the two researchers in charge of the project. Ishi soon taught the two men how to hunt with a bow and arrow which in turn rekindled America’s interest in archery.
